Ultra File Search is a search tool that can help you find files and folders on your hard discs, network locations, discs and external drives.

Different search criteria can be used. In this respect, you will be able to find files according to their properties or perform full-text searches to find given words or phrases.
Using the program may not be as easy as using Windows search, but the advantages compensate to a large degree. The program features a tabbed interface in which each tab corresponds to a different type of search. This way, the first tab is intended for finding files and folders by providing their names or parts of them and choosing given locations. Additionally, you can set a group of filters and exclusions. The second tab is intended for full-text searches. In this regard, you can look for either words or phrases. There is also a third tab if you need to perform searches according to the file’s size, creation date, modification date, last-access date, etc. Finally, the fourth tab lets you find files according to such attributes as archive, read-only, system, hidden or directory. You can also specify other attributes that are typical of NTFS file systems, like compressed, temporary, encrypted, indexed, etc.
All the search types described above will certainly help you find your files with accuracy. However, I actually miss a search according to file type. I know I can use extension wildcards instead, but what about a beginner? Does he need to know the extension to find the file he needs?
In general, Ultra File Search is an excellent tool that can compensate the poor search features present in Microsoft Windows. Unlike other search utilities, it does not perform background indexing, which saves system resources and does not require extra disk space. However, despite Ultra File Search can actually find the results quite fast, the absence of a previous indexing has a negative impact on the search speed because the application needs to perform searches in real time. In this regard, it would have been great if the user could choose whether to use indexing or not.
